Taking Your
Cat For a Walk
Cats, being the independent creatures they are, Generally (see below) do not like being taken
for walks on a collar and lead like dogs. Felines are more solitary animals, and
prefer to do their own thing! Usually resisting all attempts to train them to
take long walks. Some cats will follow their owners for a short time, often
along a familiar route and normally not wearing a collar and lead, but they will
almost certainly give up after a short time, to tread their chosen territory
instead.
A dog however, is a pack animal and loves nothing better than to be
taken for a walk by its owner, who it thinks is the “pack leader”. To your
cat you will always be its “mother”, and when it follows you for short
distances it is reverting back to the days when it was a kitten and followed its
mother on short trips from the nest.
