(1821-1909)
|
Henriėtte's father, Joseph encouraged her to
paint at a young age. He would extensively travel with his wife and children
painting the countryside in France as well as the south of Holland, both Henriėtte
and her brother followed in their father's footsteps. On
her 13th birthday, Henriėtter was given her first lessons in art,

Living
in the country side enabled Henriėtte to paint her favorite subjects:
landscapes and themes with animals. Nature would always play an
important role in her work Around 1850, Henriėtte married Feico
Ronner and moved to Brussels. From this time on, she was painting
stray dogs in Brussels rather than landscapes. Portraying dogs pulling
their carts in the streets of the Flemish city would become her favorite
theme and trade mark. She became recognized as the painter of dogs. Even
the Duchess of Vlaanderen and the Belgian Queen would sit for her with
their dogs. Around 1870, was the time she began painting cats. |
